Kings & Queens of England

Between the years of 1979 and 1981 Franklin Mint issued 43 pewter miniatures, as individual pieces, of all the Kings and Queens of England, from Edward the Confessor to Queen Elizabeth II.

Britain’s Society of Portrait Sculptors commissioned the miniatures and the artist chosen to create the figures in this fascinating cavalcade of monarchy through the ages was Roger Saunders.  He based the figures on a wide-ranging study of the most authentic sources in each case.

The figures vary in height:  a scale of one centimetre to one foot was chosen to reflect the differences in stature among 43 monarchs.  And, most noteworthy of all, the sculptor worked throughout at the actual size of the finished figures.

Each figure measures approximately 6cm in height and is marked on the bottom with the name and years of reign.

These are currently on display at the City of Canada Bay Museum as our tribute to the Coronation of King Charles III.
