1927 Chinese Commemorative Scroll
This was given by Kwang Lim Kwong, the manager of a touring Chinese soccer team, to Ernest Lukeman, the secretary of the Australian Soccer Football Association, in appreciation for his help in coordinating a team from China to tour Australia in 1927.
The Lukeman family has lived in Drummoyne for several generations. Recently, Adrian Boothman, Ernest Lukeman’s great-grandson, found the scroll in his garage, where it had been hidden away for many years.
Adrian approached Councillor Andrew Ferguson to find a way to donate this priceless commemorative plaque to the City of Canada Bay Museum as a way of recognising his family’s contribution to the Drummoyne community and Australian Soccer.
Together they arranged for the restoration and re-framing of the scroll and then approached our Society to see if we would be happy to accept the donation.
As a result, Adrian, Peter Lukeman (grandson), Trevor Thompson (ABC Journalist), Craig Foster (former Captain of Socceroos and SBS Sports), together with Councillors Ferguson and Little, visited the City of Canada Bay Museum to formally hand over the scroll.
It is now on display at the museum.
