The Parramatta River is significant in the City of Canada Bay. From Drummoyne to Rhodes the LGA is bounded by this significant waterway. John Johnson will explore the Parramatta River as a barrier, a transport link, a boundary, and an object of desire. Discover the river’s rich history of tool-making and food gathering, the early punts and ferries that crossed its waters, and the elegant houses built along its banks. John will also discuss the impact of the series of bridges constructed in the 1880s that linked the centre of Sydney with the North Shore.
John Johnson is the studies librarian at the City of Canada Bay libraries and Chery Kemp is a heritage consultant and Heritage Adviser to Hunters Hill Council and has over 30 years experience in the heritage field, including in North Sydney Council, South Sydney Council and City of Sydney Council.
