On Thursday, October 13, 2022, the City of Canada Bay Heritage Society lost one of its most enduring, influential, universally friendly and hardworking members when Alan Wright died peacefully in Concord Hospital.  Alan was one of our society’s last three active founding members and will be sadly missed.  For many years he was our President.

Our sincere condolences go out to his wife Lorna and their three children.

Alan was a very active member of the Canada Bay community.  He was elected to Concord Council in 1968 and served as Deputy Mayor from 1970 to 1971 and as Mayor from 1972 to 1973.

He was actively involved with his local church (Holy Trinity), the Liberal Party, the Rotary Club of Concord, Concord Meals on Wheels, Society for Providing Service to Needy and Neglected Children (Ardill House), Strathfield North Public School and Concord West Toastmasters.  For many years he organised local door-knock appeals for the Salvation Army, Red Cross and Freedom From Hunger.

In 1990 Alan’s service to the community was acknowledged with an award of the Order of Australia medal; in 2008 he was Canada Bay Council’s Citizen of the Year.  He was also awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship and a Paul Harris Sapphire Pin from the Rotary Club of Concord.
