I was a pupil at Burwood Public School in Conder Street, Burwood, when Queen Elizabeth visited Sydney in 1954. The pupils were allowed to view the “royal” train as it made its journey westward. Many were on the
pedestrian bridge over the railway lines. Then later during that same visit we waited at Concord oval as the Royal car drove slowly along the avenues of excited children. Concord oval/park was then renamed Queen Elizabeth Park. What wonderful memories.

On the Queens visit in 1954 when I was a Queen’s Scout with 1st Concord Boy Scout Troop I had the pleasure of opening the door of the Queen’s car when she visited to open the memorial in the south west corner of the Park.
