Did Television Kill the Movie Theatre

September 1 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

At the end of WWII Sydneysiders spent a great deal of their spare time going to the movies.  Almost every suburb had at least one, two or even more picture theatres.  In total, at that time, there were 145 suburban theatres in the Sydney Metropolitan area.

With the coming of licensed clubs and televisions, the motion picture industry suffered greatly with more than fifty percent of cinemas closing in the space of 5 years.
