Talk: Prince Alfred Park
June 1 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
In his talk, Stuart Read will tell us all about Prince Alfred Park – an under-appreciated city park where Sydney’s first inter-colonial expo (part of the ‘crystal Palace’ world expo movement) took place.
He will highlight the park’s various phases of evolution through to what we enjoy today.
He has side stories on world exhibitions, fashion and taste, native plant use, the industrial revolution, notions of self-image, royalty and changing uses of our open spaces.
