Stuart Street

Named for Sir Alexander Stuart (1824-1856), merchant and politician. He entered the Parliament of New South Wales, and in 1876 was appointed Colonial Treasurer, which position he held for about a year.

He left politics for some time then returned and was elected Leader of the Opposition in 1882 and Premier in 1883. He died in England in 1886.
